چکیده

Abstract. Peatlands are globally significant carbon stocks and may become major sources of the greenhouse gases (GHGs) dioxide methane in a changing climate under anthropogenic management pressure. Diffusion is dominant gas transport mechanism peat; therefore, proper knowledge soil diffusion coefficient important for estimation GHG emissions from peatlands. Pore network modeling (PNM) potential tool determination diffusivity peat, as it explicitly connects peat microstructure characteristics pore to macroscopic properties. In present work, we extracted macropore networks three-dimensional X-ray micro-computed tomography (µCT) images samples simulated these using PNM. These results were compared coefficients determined same laboratory chamber method. The measurements simulations conducted three depths. varying water contents adjusted pressure plate apparatus. We also assessed applicability commonly used models peat. showed decrease with depth due air-filled porosity space connectivity. However, was not extremely low close saturation, which indicate that structure such enables presence connected pathways through matrix, even wet conditions. traditional very successful predicting coefficient. This differs considerably mineral soils other kinds porous materials have been constructed calibrated. By contrast, reproduced laboratory-determined rather well. Thus, combination µCT PNM methods offer promising alternative measurements.

A New Approach for Constructing Pore Network Model of Two Phase Flow in Porous Media

Development of pore network models for real porous media requires a detailed understanding of physical processes occurring on the microscopic scale and a complete description of porous media morphology. In this study, the microstructure of porous media has been represented by three dimensional networks of interconnected pores and throats which are designed by an object oriented approach. Af...

A New Algorithm for Determining Ultimate Pit Limits Based on Network Optimization

One of the main concerns of the mining industry is to determine ultimate pit limits. Final pit is a collection of blocks, which can be removed with maximum profit while following restrictions on the slope of the mine’s walls. The size, location and final shape of an open-pit are very important in designing the location of waste dumps, stockpiles, processing plants, access roads and other surfac...

A New Model for Prediction of Heat Eddy Diffusivity in Pipe Expansion Turbulent Flows

A new model to calculate heat eddy diffusivity in separating and reattaching flows based on modification of constant Prt is proposed. This modification is made using an empirical correlation between maximum Nusselt number and entrance Reynolds number. The model includes both the simplicity of Prt=0.9 assumption and the accuracy of two-equation heat-transfer models. Furthermore, an appropriate l...
